Can you spot the American oystercatcher nest? These ground nesting birds do a great job at camouflaging their nests, which makes them very vulnerable to being stepped on. This nest was found on one of our Conservation Islands in Indian River County. These important nesting areas are clearly marked with “Do not enter” signs. We ask that you keep off of them during the nesting season and never let dogs on them. IRLAP will update us when the chicks hatch and in partnership with Florida Fish and Wildlife staff, will attempt to band the new chicks.
